Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2 Review

Dibakar Banerjee’s Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2 is an anthology that centres around three queer community members. The first is about a transwoman named Noor (played by Paritosh Tiwari) and the backlash she faces for her sexuality while participating in the reality show Truth Ya Naach. The second story that follows is that of Kulu (played by Bonita Rajpurohit), a metro cleaner who is sexually assaulted. The third story shown in LSD 2 is that of Gamepaapi (Abhinav Singh), an influencer and streamer whose sexuality is revealed to the world without his consent.

The drama – which shows the ugly side of social media and the impact of always being in front of the camera, captures the hardships these LGBTQ+ members have to navigate in life. But is it worth watching?

What Works

The thing that works best for the Dibakar Banerjee directorial is the loo break. It’s much needed â€“ especially after watching the over-the-top (it may go over the top of your head, too) performances by nearly all the cast members.

What Doesn’t Work

If the interval is what works for the film, use your imagination to guess what doesn’t. The film lacks a good script, has cringe dialogues at times and will make you question why you spent some of your hard-earned money to buy a ticket and popcorn to watch the film in theatres.

Technical Analysis

Story

Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2 consists of three stories and every single one of them seems incomplete. While people do love films with an open ending, a well-defined conclusion to what exactly happens to them in the end would be nice. The story is cringe and will make you wonder if it was drafted at the last minute by an amateur.

Script & Dialogues

The script isn’t crisp and the dialogues are crass. The unnecessary use of vulgar language exudes a ‘chappri’ vibe. Be ready to catch your head and think to yourself – ‘Did this character really just say that?’

Direction

50% of the star given to this film is for Dibakar Banerjee’s direction. While we are always used to seeing camera shots on the big screen, Banerjee makes sure the audiences are in the digital world by having Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2 have webcam POVs, front camera shots and several more captures that one would see on social media.

Editing

The editing by Naman Arora, with the assistance of Saarim Shakil and Atharva could have been much better. The use of black screens to go from one scene to the next with the audio playing in the background is unimpressive. Imaginative transformations would have been more engaging; alas the makers let the opportunity slip by.

Music

Love Sex Aur Dhoka 2 has several songs like Gandi Taal – sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Sneha Khanwalkar, Gulabi Ankhiyan – crooned by Jubin Nautiyal, Sakshi Holkar and Meet Bros, Kamsin Kali – vocalized by Tony Kakkar & Neha Kakkar and more. PS: Gandi Taal is a controversial song that is sure to make you question your life.

The music is composed by several artists, including Dibakar Banerjee, Tanmay Bhattacherjee, Nirmit Shah, Tony Kakkar, Meet Bros and more. The songs may work as singles, but not so much for the movie. The background music isn’t on point and does little to nothing to help in engaging the audience.

Star Performances

My first statement when talking about the ‘star’ performances in Love Sex Aur Dhokha is – 50 rupaye kaat overacting ka. While Uorfi Javed, Mouni Roy, Sophie Choudry, Anu Malik and Tusshar Kapoor have small roles, their overacting will stay fresh in your mind long after the end credits roll.

Paritosh Tiwari as Noor is by far one of the best performances in the film. Bonita Rajpurohit as Kulu and Abhinav Singh as Gamepaapi also deliver okay-ish performances. The chaotic stories of all three characters fail to let them shine bright.

Conclusion

Don’t waste your money to go to a theatre and watch Love Sex Aur Dhoka 2. Wait for it to stream online as it will help you take as many breaks as you would like and even skip parts you may feel are dragging or stupid.
